SPRAY TAN CARE INSTRUCTIONS

BEFORE TAN

Shower, exfoliate, and remove body hair before your tanning session.

Choose a gel body wash rather than a "moisturizing" body wash. NO DOVE BODY WASH OR BAR SOAP! Sugar scrubs work great! Make sure to scrub your entire body well. Avoid using a loofah as they can leave you streaky and don’t evenly exfoliate your skin. Opt for a washcloth or an exfoliating mitt instead.

RINSE WELL! Be sure to wash off any hair conditioner/shampoo residue from your body.

Timeline:

  • 24-48 hours before- exfoliate and shave

  • no less than 4 hours before- shower

  • Shaving too soon before your spray tan can cause dots to appear from open pores

  • Schedule any nail, facial, waxing appointments 24 hours or more prior to your spray tan.

DAY OF TAN

Skin should be clean and dry before being sprayed. Don’t apply moisturizers, oils, or makeup before your tanning appointment. They can affect tan development. Remove deodorant prior.

You may undress to your comfort level. - completely nude, partially nude, undergarments, or bathing suits. It doesn't matter to us! This is about you!

For your appointment, please ensure you prepare a space in your home that has the following:

  • An accessible outlet

  • Bright lighting (the more natural the better)

  • A space big enough to set up our 4 x 4 x 7 ft tanning tent

  • No body shaming. No apologizing. We don't mind about your kid's mess, your laundry on the table, or your dishes in the sink. All we care about is making you feel comfortable with your tanning experience.

AFTER TAN

Avoid sweating and water. Wait to shower 12-24 hours after your spray tan or 4-8 hours for the rapid tan. (Rinse time depends on a few different factors so your spay tan artist will decide this with you)

FIRST RINSE: When you shower for the first time, do not use soap on your body. Just rinse off with warm water and gently brush off the bronzer with your hands in circular motions. Pat dry after showering. Do not rub.

NOTE: The cosmetic bronzer is the color that is immediately visible during the session and it will wash off during the first shower, revealing the DHA (active ingredient that makes you tan) tan beneath. This is not your tan washing down the drain.

MOISTURIZING: Use a moisturizer in the morning and at night. This is a very important step in extending the life and evenness of your tan. We recommend Hempz.

SHAVING: Use a sharp, clean razor with a lubricating product, when shaving. It’s always a good idea to change your razor head out on your first rinse. Remember- Less shaving = less fade

SOAPS: Certain body washes can change the hue of your tan and cause fading. Choose a clean body wash without parabens or sulfates. We recommend Cetaphil Daily Refreshing Body Wash, Eucerin Advanced Cleansing, Love Beauty and Planet, Puracy, Renpure, Everyone Soap, and Mrs. Meyers Clean Day.

Swimming in a chlorinated pool, hot tub, or ocean can cause the tan to fade prematurely due to dryness.

Use an SPF that is aerosol-free. Stick to creams with minimal chemicals such as Sun Bum, Neutrogena, or EltaMD, or Coola.

If you properly moisturize, your tan should last anywhere from 7-10 days.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

IS SPRAY TANNING SAFE?

Completely! The main ingredient that creates the color on your skin, DHA, is derived from sugar. It has been tested by the Food and Drug Administration and deemed safe for external use only. We can provide nose filters and protective eyewear to avoid any accidental ingestion. Women who are pregnant or nursing should always consult their physician before receiving a spray tan.

WILL IT CAUSE A MESS?

Not at all! We come with everything needed to ensure a clean and mess-free appointment. The solution is sprayed inside our large tent and the extraction fan is placed in the back to filter any extra mist in the air during your session.

I'M NATURALLY VERY FAIR AND DON'T TAN. WILL I LOOK NATURAL?

You are the perfect client! We consult with each and every client to correctly color match. We recommend you start off with a lighter solution if you're a spray tanning newbie. You can always go darker on your next session. Just remember, if you are fair, a darker color will be more obvious as you start to fade.

CAN I DECIDE HOW TAN I WOULD LIKE TO BE?

Of course! We consult before your appointment (usually over the phone) to decide this. Recommendations are given based on your skin type, undertones, and more. Some people absorb more color than others. We try our best to give you exactly what you ask for. People who spray tan on a regular basis tend to get darker, as the skin recognizes the ingredients easier.

About: FAQ

HOW LONG WILL MY TAN LAST?

Your tan should last anywhere between 7 and 10 days. Your tan will prematurely fade if you do not use a daily moisturizer. Our favorite lotion to recommend is Hempz. Use this each time you get out of the shower plus one other time during the day either morning or night.

WHY ISN'T MY TAN LASTING? WHAT CAN CAUSE FADING?

There are many factors that can cause premature fading. Follow these tips to ensure a long-lasting tan:

  1. Exfoliate very well before your session

  2. Avoid showering more than once per day

  3. Avoid loofahs and washcloths in the shower during your tan as they can accidentally exfoliate your skin

  4. Pat dry after showering

  5. Moisturize 2x per day

  6. Hormone levels can play a part in how well the pigment develops- avoid spray tans right before or during your period

  7. Avoid anti-acne and anti-aging products such as AHA, Retin-A, Tretinoin, etc.

  8. Antibiotics and other medications may also affect your tan.

DOES THE SOLUTION SMELL BAD?

The solutions actually have a very nice aroma! As the DHA develops on your skin, you may notice a slight smell. After your first shower, it won't be noticeable anymore.

CAN I SLEEP IN MY TAN?

You certainly can! We recommend sleeping in lightweight long sleeves and pants to avoid skin-to-skin contact which can cause the solution to sweat off and rub. If you notice any bronzer on your bedding in the morning, just throw it in the wash right away and it won't stain.

About: FAQ

CAN I LEAVE MY TAN ON LONGER THAN RECOMMENDED?

We will give you a recommended time frame to rinse. Leaving it on too much longer will cause your skin to become dry which is not good for longevity of the tan. It won’t be any darker if you leave it on past the max amount of time. Please let us know before your appointment if you plan to leave your tan on for longer than the originally recommended time frame so we can adjust how much solution/coats you will need.

WILL A SPRAY TAN PROTECT ME FROM GETTING A SUNBURN?

No, our solutions do not contain sunscreen. You'll need to apply sunscreen before prolonged exposure to sunlight.

CAN I STILL UV TAN WITH A SPRAY TAN?

Yes, you will still be able to achieve a “real” tan through your spray tan. Please remember to wear sunscreen! You do not want to burn with your spray tan!

HOW CAN I TIME MY TAN FOR VACATION, EVENT, OR WEDDING?

This will be a part of your pre-booking consultation process. Share your timeline when you make your appointment request. We want to make sure your tan is the freshest for your special event! Typically, we recommend 1-2 days prior.
